Gas Central Heating systems come in various forms. Most if not all of these Gas Central Heating Systems comprise of a gas boiler, some central heating radiators and connecting pipework.
People in the UK, Europe and some parts of Russia, hardly need an air conditioner because of the low average temperature. Most of us need a decent heating supply far more; this is why the majority of new houses that are being built in this day and age are built with a Central Heating System.
A reliable Central Heating system is important to keep your house warm especially during winter months. Only then you can relax and feel cosy inside your house. Therefore your heating system needs to be efficient and reliable. You should feel that your Central Heating System is safe, easy to use and long lasting.
There are two main types of Central Heating Systems; pumped/vented and sealed systems.
Pumped or vented Gas Central Heating systems are most popularly used. The pumped/vented Gas Central Heating Systems have an expansion tank and a feed. Your radiators are heated and your water is stored in a hot water tank. Any water expansion that may occur due to heating is handled by the expansion tank. It is normally placed at the highest place of the house like the attic area, taking up space. It serves a dual purpose by heating the house and also supplying heated water.
A pumped/vented Gas Central Heating System is what most homes probably have, especially those built many years earlier.
A slightly newer, more up-to-date central heating boiler that many people are choosing over a pumped/vented Gas Central Heating system is a sealed system. As the name indicates, a sealed system is a an enclosed system therefore no expansion water tanks are needed. This unvented system eliminates water tanks and loft plumbing, thus giving a number of advantages.
- There is no chance of pipes freezing in the attic.
- No maintenance or repair work is required for the pipes and tank which would have been in the attic.
- The chance of a leaking water tank is all together absent.
- As there are no open vents, air cannot enter into the system and so the risk of corroding, air locks and sludge is drastically diminished.
- It is possible to flush out the system if required by using the mains water supply.
All the required controls and safety devices are incorporated into the sealed Gas Central Heating systems. A sealed Central Heating System uses water that comes directly from the main water supply. It is plumbed straight into the main water supply.
A pressure vessel containing compressed gas, which is kept separate from the sealed system by a diaphragm, is used to allow any pressure variations. The safety valve opens up when the pressure in the system rises so that water can escape through it, on the other hand it opens up when the pressure drops down so that the water can refill the system.
Central Heating Systems are worth the money as they are cheaper to run than any other form of heating. They offer you a lot more control of your home environment than the other heating systems.
