Join the herd and take boiler protection policies

Nowadays, there is almost nothing that can’t be covered by insurance, from the health of dogs to safety of pda’s. Of course, some things are more important to get covered than others and, with the likes of motor insurance, you may be legally required to do so. If someone has a mortgage from a bank, the lender will require the borrower to take out buildings insurance. Insurance offers security against unpredicted events that can severely affect life and property.

Carrying somewhat of a lower degree of importance is central heating system insurance, such as those products from npower Hometeam, Eon and British Gas. These policies are not being used as widely as they should be, but homeowners often feel that the are more important things with higher repair costs to cover than the gas central heating system, these opinions change when there is an unexpected heating problem with a high repair cost. The other problem is that actually getting someone to repair it can take time, and living without hot water or heating is no fun, especially in winter. But the most disturbing fact about a badly maintained central heating system is the possibility of carbon monoxide leakage which can be deadly.

Several types of central heating insurance plans are available. Generally service plans start with contracts which includes safety checks and annual servicing fulfilling the householders minimum requirements. Maintenance and spare parts coverage are not included in these policies and servicing plans. If your heating boiler is no longer under guarantee and you only have a basic plan you could upgrade to cover that includes spare parts and repairs for just a little extra money. This is a smart move, specially as the central heating boiler’s warranty period and working life draw to a close. You can extend your policy to cover other things too, besides the central heating system like radiators and other parts of the central heating system or even plumbing, drains and home electrics cover.

Exemptions or limits which are written into the insurance document should be carefully considered while choosing a policy. Some providers will limit the number of call outs per year or specify a maximum cost of inclusive repairs for a given period. Central heating insurance is like all other types in that you shouldn’t just go for the cheapest deal and always study whether it has sufficient cover.
