Determine what layout of central heating boiler you need
Different types of Central Heating Systems are available in the market. Most if not all of these Gas Central Heating Systems comprise of a heating boiler, some central heating radiators and connecting pipework.
Air conditioning is not a priority for residents of Europe and northern countries as these regions experience cold weather most of the year with short duration summertimes. Today a good Gas Central Heating system has become a major part of every household, so much so that it is being installed in all the new houses that are being constructed.
As autumn fades and chilly winds begin to blow, homeowners turn to their Gas Central Heating for warmth and comfort. Only then you can relax and feel cosy inside your house. For this, you need a reliable gas boiler in your Central Heating system. It should be durable, easy to use and completely safe.
Sealed and vented or pumped systems are the two major types of Central Heating Systems available.
Pumped or vented Central Heating systems are most popularly used. A pumped/vented Central Heating System has a feed and expansion tank. Hot water from the storage tank supplies your kitchen and bath while also heating up the heating radiators. Any water expansion that may occur due to heating is handled by the expansion tank. You will most likely find the expansion tank kept in the highest part of the house. The tank provides a dual supply of hot water and warmth for the house.
A lot of older homes have pumped/vented Central Heating systems.
A heating boiler system that is somewhat newer and more modern and that most people are choosing nowadays over the pumped/vented Central Heating system is the sealed system. As the name indicates, a sealed system is a an enclosed system therefore no expansion water tanks are needed. There are no tanks or pipework in the loft, the whole system is sealed, its unvented, which has its benefits:.
- The problem of freezing pipes is eliminated.
- attic space is freed up and pipe maintenance is reduced.
- Because the system is not vented, there is less chance of water leaking out.
- The risk of airlocks, corroding and gunk are reduced because there won’t be any air being taken down into the system through the open holes as the system is sealed.
- It is possible to flush out the system if required by using the mains water supply.
A sealed Central Heating System is a packaged unit with all the necessary controls and safety devices. The mains water supplies the water required for the sealed Gas Central Heating system. The mains water goes direct to the sealed system.
A pressure vessel containing tightly packed gas can allow a sealed system to have normal fluctuations of pressure; a diaphragm serves as a barrier between the gas and water in the sealed system. The pressure in a sealed Gas Central Heating System is controlled by a valve that lets water out if the pressure becomes too high and opens to refill the system with water if the pressure gets too low.
As compared to other heating systems, Central Heating systems are cheaper to run. And they provide you with much more control and choice when it comes to your heating compared to any other systems.
