Combi heating boilers have been installed for a while. The combination has been more popular in the Continent than in the U.K., but is now being installed more frequently as an alternative to the conventional wall mounted boiler. By comparison with conventional gas boilers you will see that there are two major divergences. A fully sealed system contains the circulating hot water for the central heating. The feed and enlargement cylinder destined for the attic can now be dispensed with. Domestic hot water is developed as required, switching on a hot water tap will alert the heating boiler to this need. And efficient integral heat exchanger enables the boiler to quickly heat and cold water. The heat exchanger is heated by channeling circulating hot water from the central heating system. This mechanism rapidly heats cold mains water before it is running out on the hot water tap.

Hot water production is prioritised ahead of the passage of hot water to the radiators. Once the valve is closed and the need for hot water is removed the system will return to providing hot water to the radiators.
